Position Summary:
The Survey Crew Technician supports surveying projects by assisting with the collection of accurate field data for construction, land development, and mapping purposes. This role works under the direction of a Party Chief or Survey Crew Leader and requires both fieldwork and office coordination.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the setup, operation, and maintenance of survey instruments including total stations, GPS receivers, data collectors, and levels.
- Collect and record field survey data related to boundaries, topography, utilities, and construction staking.
- Clear and prepare sites for survey work, including driving stakes, setting markers, and maintaining reference points.
- Maintain accurate field notes, sketches, and digital data for transfer to office staff.
- Perform basic calculations and checks to ensure data accuracy.
- Assist with downloading, organizing, and reviewing field data.
- Ensure proper care and calibration of survey equipment, tools, and vehicles.
- Follow safety protocols and project procedures at all times.
- Collaborate with survey crew members, engineers, contractors, and clients as directed.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional coursework in surveying, civil engineering, or geomatics preferred.
- Previous surveying or construction experience a plus but not always required (on-the-job training provided).
- Familiarity with survey equipment (total stations, GPS, levels, data collectors).
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans and survey maps.
- Strong math skills (geometry, algebra, trigonometry).
- Good physical condition; able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and terrain.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
