Position Overview:
The Land Survey AutoCAD Technician provides technical support to survey crews and project managers by processing field data, preparing detailed survey drawings, and ensuring accuracy in mapping and design. This role requires strong AutoCAD Civil 3D skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work with survey data to produce plats, topographic maps, boundary surveys, construction stakeout drawings, and other deliverables.
Key Responsibilities:
- Import, process, and manage survey field data using AutoCAD Civil 3D and related software.
- Draft survey plats, boundary surveys, ALTA/NSPS surveys, topographic maps, easement exhibits, and construction stakeout drawings.
- Maintain and organize survey project files and drawing standards.
- Work closely with survey crew chiefs, project managers, and engineers to ensure deliverables meet quality standards and project requirements.
- Verify accuracy of survey data, including measurements and calculations, before preparing drawings.
- Prepare base maps and coordinate data for use in design projects.
- Ensure compliance with company CAD standards, industry best practices, and client specifications.
- Assist in research of deeds, plats, and GIS records to support survey projects.
- Perform quality control checks on drawings and data prior to submission.
Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree, technical certificate, or equivalent experience in surveying, drafting, or civil engineering technology.
- Proficiency in Carlson & AutoCAD Civil 3D (required).
- Knowledge of land surveying principles, terminology, and practices.
- Strong understanding of coordinate systems, units, and scale.
- Experience with survey data collection systems (Trimble, Leica, Topcon, or similar) a plus.
- Ability to interpret field notes, legal descriptions, and engineering plans.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with GIS software, MicroStation, or other CAD platforms.
- Familiarity with state/local survey standards and ALTA requirements.
- Field survey experience (GPS, total station, data collectors).
Work Environment:
- Primarily office-based with occasional field work as needed.
- Collaborative team setting, supporting survey crews and engineering staff.
